Hibernation
Hello, patrons of the internet! It has been quite some time.
This is just a little post to let the void know that I definitely haven’t been slacking…I definitely didn’t discover the game Factorio and spend countless hours growing the factory.
Outside of factory growth, I finished the penetration tester pathway on the HackTheBox platform, which has resulted in spending most of my free-and-waking hours towards prepping for the CPTS exam.
I’m planning on taking the CWES (Web Penetration Testing Certification) exam to sharpen up my web-methodology, as finish the pathway only requires finishing four modules on top of the CPTS pathway.
Outside of this, I’ve been slowly grinding away at CompTIA’s Network+, and CRTO (Certified Red Team operator) from Zero Point Security.
All this to say, I have been - and will continue to be - fairly irregular in my posting until these exams have been taken and passed (looking at you CPTS).
Outside of the above, the general plan for this year is to get the above certifications, and then mosey on to obtaining the CDSA (Certified Defensive Security Analyst) from HacktheBox, and also the excellent IMBT (Introduction to Malware Binary Triage) by Invoke RE cert. Eventually I’m hoping to start working through the beginner modules of Maldev Academy, but these are all stretch goals for 2026.
Once I’m back in action, I have a fairly large back-log of an additional 30-ish boxes that I’ve completed and half-written up, so I’ll be focusing on getting those out first.
Ultimately, I’m planning to launch a series that is a little more exploratory and investigative in nature. The idea revolves around my journey through malware development, AV/EDR evasion (using the elastic container project), and threat hunting. The ultimate goal is to play purple team, understand evasion, then develop some rules to detect evasion…and have a jolly good time whilst doing it. Obviously this series requires me to scale some heady heights, so it is likely to be a 2027 focus.
Anyway, that is all for now.
